Vetiver - The Ingredient of the Month
The first ingredient from our campaign The Ingredient of the Month that we’re introducing to you is the vetiver.
Vetiver is a perennial grass native to India and can grow up to 1.5 metres high and form clumps as wide. Unlike most grasses, which form horizontally spreading mat-like root systems, vetiver's roots grow downward, 2–4 metres in depth. Vetiver is mainly cultivated for the fragrant essential oil distilled from its roots.
The vetiver essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the roots. Oil is viscous, reddish-brown; fragrance is earthy, heavy, musty, and woody.
Like the oils of patchouli and sandalwood, vetiver oil is a base note that serves as a valuable fixative for fougere, Oriental and chypre type perfumes, to which it lends a suave softness and rich body. It takes about 90kg of vetiver roots to obtain 0,5kg of oil.
You can find out more in Elysee stores, where our advisors will give you more informations and where you can smell the vetiver oil and all the perfumes from Elysee portfolio that feature it!
